Performance Data Collection - Modify the Export Tool so That It Can Run in OpenJDK SVP and MPC Environments

Objective

  • Modify the Export Tool so that it can run on SVPs and MPCs that do not have Oracle Java installed
  • Modify the Export Tool so that it can run in OpenJDK SVP and MPC Environments
  • Resolve Export Tool Error: 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Environment

  • OpenJDK (sometimes referred to as "Java 11")
  • Service Processor (SVP)
  • Maintenance PC (MPC)
  • Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows 10
  • Specific Hitachi Storage
    • VSP 5000 Series (DKC910I, R900, Raid 900)
      • VSP 5100, VSP 5100H, VSP 5500, VSP 5500H
    • VSP E Series (HM900)
    • VSP G130 G/F350 G/F370 G/F700 G/F900 (HM850, VSP Gxx0, VSP Gx00v2)
      • VSP G130, G350, G370, G700, G900
      • VSP F350, F370, F700, F900
    • VSP Gx00 and VSP Fx00 (HM800)
      • Virtual Storage Platform Gx00 (VSP Gx00): VSP G200, VSP G400, VSP G600, VSP G800
      • Virtual Storage Platform Fx00 (VSP Fx00): VSP F400, VSP F600, VSP F800
      • Virtual Storage Platform Fx00 (VSP Nx00): VSP N400, VSP N600, VSP N800

Prerequisites

Note: This procedure only needs to be applied when the array model is listed in the Environment section of this article

  1. Download the Correct Export Tool Version per How to Download the Appropriate Export Tool Version Specific to Array Microcode
  2. Setup Export tool on MPC or SVP per Enterprise - How to Run the Export Tool for Enterprise Performance Data Collection
    • Do not run the Export Tool yet

  • This procedure only needs to be applied when the array model is listed in the Environment section of this article
  • If changes are ever made to the runWin.bat file in a new microcode version, Method 2 may not keep up-to-date with the changes. If this ever happens, use Method 1.
  • Never run the Export Tool when other Java/OpenJDK functions are being used on the SVP or MPC.
    • Do not run the Export Tool when launching any Storage Navigator or Maintenance Utility window that uses Java/OpenJDK.
      • For example, the Firmware function within the Maintenance Utility uses OpenJDK, do not run the Export Tool while upgrading firmware.
      • For example, the Data Retention Utility within Storage Navigator uses OpenJDK, do not run open the Data Retention window while running the Export Tool
