What To Do if Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VRoC) is Missing From BIOS Advanced Menu After Maintenance Action

 

Symptom

  • Customer reports, after maintenance action their Intel Virtual RAID CPU (VRoC) configuration is missing Basic Input Output System (BIOS)  Advanced Screen on DS120.

Environment

  • Advanced Server DS120
  • Windows Server
    • Non-volatile Memory Express(NVMe)
    • Serial Attached ATA (SATA)
    • SATA Disk On Module (SATADOM)
  • Linux
    • NVMe
    • SATA
    • SATADOM
  • VMware
    • NVMe
  • Intel VROC 
    • Optional Licenses key for RAID or other advanced functions. 
  • An operation has been performed which resets the BIOS configurstion 

Resolution

  1. Intel VRoC  configuration has to be enabled in the BIOS 
    1. Enter BIOS  by selecting F2 or DEL
    2.  Verify Intel VRoc does nto appear in the  Advanced Menu
    3. Go to Socket Configuration
    4. Select IIO Configuration
    5. Select Intel VMD Technology
    6. Enable Ports
    7. Save and exit F10 
    8. Intel VRoC  appears under Advanced

Cause

The BIOS Configuration had been reset and  needs to be enabled. 

Additional Notes

In order to enabled the configuration the server type all flash or hybrid is required. 

This will define the ports that can be used. If you enable all ports, then server will require a long reboot time.
