Maintaining the storage system
Ongoing proper maintenance of the storage system maintains the reliability of the storage system and its constant availability to all hosts connected to it.

Storing the storage system
If the storage system does not receive power for more than six months, the battery can become discharged and possibly damaged. To avoid this situation, charge the battery for more than three hours at least once every six months.
Using flash module drives
Observe the following guidelines when handling the listed flash module drives (FMDs). The following types of FMDs are equipped with a battery or capacitor.

Follow the guidelines to avoid damaging the components when handling FMDs.
- Check the main edge connector of the drive for any damage, deformation, dust, or debris before installing.
- Check for floats or position gaps in the connector. Mark the identified location.
- To prevent any damages to the FMD, avoid touching the connector or handling the ends of the FMD. Use both hands to hold the middle area of the FMD.
- Avoid installing or removing the FMD at an angled position.
Powering off the storage system
Press the main switch for three seconds until the POWER LED blinks.
Verify the POWER LED on the front of the storage system changes from green to amber.
Wait 25 minutes to 4 hours for the POWER LED to turn amber, depending on the system configuration (check after 33 minutes).To stop the power supply, remove the power cables from the power supply units on the controller chassis and drive box.
If the storage system is connected to a PDU, you can stop the power supply by turning off the PDU breaker.NoteIf the storage system does not receive power for more than six months, the battery can become discharged and possibly damaged. Removing cables
Observe the following instructions when removing cables form the storage system.
To remove an optical cable, push the top of the connector of the optical cable (1) to release the latch and remove the SAS cable (2).
To remove a LAN cable, push the top of the LAN cable connector (1) to release the latch and remove the LAN cable (2).
To remove a PCIe cable, pull the tab of the PCIe cable (1) to release the latch and remove the PCIe cable (2).
