What is Analyzer, Analyzer detail view, and Analyzer viewpoint?

Ops Center Analyzer provides an intuitive UI for performance monitoring, management and troubleshooting. Analyzer detail view performs the data collection from monitored targets (such as storage systems, hosts, and switches) using software probes that support each device or environment. Detail view also provides historical trend analysis and extensive report generation capabilities. Analzyer viewpoint provides a high-level view of multiple data center from a single UI.

Does Analyzer support only one Linux version? What about Ubuntu?

Analyzer supports Oracle Linux OVA and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for RPM.

Does the system notify the user of a license error?

Yes. There is a red warning at the top of the UI where you can drill down to find the license violation.

Can you provide more details on the TCP/IP option for agent setup? Do you have to specify both to collect data?

While most of the metrics are from CMD DEV, the following metrics are also required:

  1. Capacity to count licenses. (HTnM uses HDvM capacity and licenses are counted in the same way as HDvM and any other products).
  2. ESW is required by Analyzer.

Can you set the interval for data collection?

Interval collection in is controlled by RAID Agent settings.

How current is the data transmitted from the Analyzer Probe to the Analyzer detail view server? How about compared to the data collected every 15 minutes?

Data that is collected via RAID Agent is nearly instantaneously polled and transmitted by the Analyzer Probe to the  Analyzer detail view server. For Analyzer, the default refresh time for the dashboard is 5 minutes. Customers can change the frequency and/or disable automatic refresh for certain reports, which they would then have to manually refresh.

Does RAID Agent run in the same way in Analyzer as it did in HTnM? Specifically, are there real-time reports such as those in Performance Reporter?

There are currently no real-time reports, such as those in Performance Reporter. However, you can use the Granular Data Collection feature that generates a CSV file.

What is placed in the Linux installation directory when adding the Linux Probe? What do these scripts do? Where are they located on the install media?

There are six scripts:

  • -runs on the Analytics Probe server and installs Linux Analyzer Probe software on the specified target hosts/IP.
  • receives raw data from Linux hosts (runs on the Analyzer Probe server).
  • -- converts RAW configuration Linux data into the MQL format (runs on the AnalyzerProbe server).
  • converts RAW performance Linux data into the MQLS format (runs on the Analyzer Probe server).
  • dataReceiverDaemon-- receives data from Linux nodes (runs on the Analyzer Probe server).
  • -- deletes configuration and performance data older than 7 days (runs on the Analyzer Probe server).

When selecting the “Duration” calendar, how far back can you go?

You are limited only by how long collection has been enabled.

How do customers remove old data in the database when they want to clean it up?

Retention of data in in the detail view server has no limit, but you can control the size of the size of the performance database by setting values in the /usr/local/megha/conf/sys/ file. The file contains four properties: one to enable/disable the database purge and three to specify the time, size, and disk space purge limit.

In Custom Report Builder, when building a query, I see AMS/HUS storage systems, but not VSP G1000 storage systems. Why is this?

Select the corresponding RAID categories that apply to Hitachi enterprise class (VSP family) storage.

What happens if the customer doesn’t purge/prune the Analyzer detail view database? Do they get an alert?

The customer has the option to set an alert for CPU and storage allocation on the management server.

What are out-of-box retention settings? Are the default settings best practices for retention settings?

Retention settings can be set using the Analyzer Probe UI (or a CLI for RAID Agent settings).

Do system threshold settings govern triggers (red/yellow) on the dashboard?


Is there support for Active Directory?

Analyzer supports Active Directory.

Does the dashboard automatically refresh/update?

Yes, the dashboard automatically updates/refreshes at regular intervals. The interval frequency can be set on the dashboard settings in the UI in minute-level increments. Keep in mind that depending on the resources monitored in Analyzer, the frequency should not be set so low that the refresh doesn’t complete before the next interval occurs.

Do customers have to "Acknowledge" events in the Event log? Do they go away when the event condition is no longer an issue? How do I clean up old/expired events?

No, the Event log retains the event history for the purpose of historical value/review. Currently, there is no method to remove/prune historical Events from the event log.

When Analyzer is installed, is there a one-to-one connection between the Analyzer server and Analyzer detail view server?
