Managing RTSP traffic over port 554

As a Visualization Suite administrator, when you add a domain in the admin portal, you can enable or disable use of port 554 for RTSP streams from FFmpeg/connectors to the Wowza Streaming Engine.

If you enable the use of port 554, then you must also specify the port within the VHost.xml file.

VHost.xml file

You can publish streams to the Wowza Streaming Engine by adding a comma and specifying port 554 after the existing port, within the VHost.xml file. The VHost.xml file is located at: <wse_path>/conf/.

In the following example of the VHost.xml file, port 554 was added after the existing port, 1935.

Modifying the VHost.xml file

  1. Log in to the Wowza system.

  2. Navigate to the location of the VHost.xml file: <Wowza Streaming Engine_path>/conf/

For example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Wowza Media Systems\Wowza Streaming Engine 4.7.0\conf
  3. Open the file in a text editor, such as Notepad.

  4. Locate the default/in-use port.

  5. Add a comma after the existing port, then add the new port (554).

  6. Save the file.

  7. Restart both the Wowza streaming engine and the Wowza streaming engine manager services.
