Storage Navigator Data Collection
For problems with Storage Navigator, collect the following information.
FD Dump Data
Storage Navigator supports the FD Dump Tool function. The FD Dump Tool function is available to all users, and enables users to download the USP or 9900V Storage Navigator configuration information from the SVP.The downloaded information (trace files) can be used to diagnose problems related to Storage Navigator operations.
Note: The FD Dump Tool performs the equivalent of an FDCOPY at the SVP. The DKC microprocessors are NOT dumped by use of the FD Dump Tool or FDCOPY, so any pre-existing dump info in the SVP files at the time of the FD DUMP will be gathered. This dump data may be old and not valid for troubleshooting a current problem unless a DUMP process was performed at the SVP immediately before performing the FDCOPY, FD DUMP Tool or Rapid auto dump.
Caution: If another user is using the FD Dump Tool function or Export File function, or a maintenance operation is being performed, you can not download trace files using the FD Dump Tool function.
Procedure
- Check status and version on the SVP (CE Required).
- Perform normal Autodump; save it on the SVP HDD (CE Required).
To download the Storage Navigator configuration information (trace files):
- Start your web browser
- To open the Download Trace Files Logon panel, specify the following URL ( where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the SVP)
- http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cgi-bin/utility/stc0000.cgi
- This URL is very similar to the one used to launch Storage Navigator (sjc0000.cgi)
- On USP you do not need the full URL, just the IP address of the USP
- Enter your user ID and password. Select Logon to open the Download Trace Files panel
- Select Normal Trace. Select Next.
- The files are then compressed and the Download Trace Files Download panel is displayed.
- Select Download. The File Download panel is displayed.
- Select Save this file to disk. Select OK. The Save As panel is displayed.
- Specify the download destination. Select Save. When the file is downloaded successfully, the Download Complete panel is displayed.
Note: If the web browser ends abnormally due to a time-out or an error:
- Wait for about 10 minutes.
- Restart the FD Dump Tool function.
- From the Download Trace Files panel select Existing Trace File.
Other Problems
Tell us which version of JRE you are using. The Java plugin trace file (from the personal computer or workstation that is accessing Storage Navigator) will provide the information needed about the workstation Java. This file is about 4KB and is found in the following places:
- Windows : C:\Documents and Settings\[user home directory ]\plugin[version].trace
- Windows 2003 or XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User home directory]\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\log\plugin[version].trace
- bash>: /$HOME/plugin[version].trace, or .plugin[version].trace
- the setting directory in the environment parameter of USER_JPI_PROFILE
Tell us the web browser type and version on the workstation that is accessing Storage Navigator.
Optional - CE Required
Apache log and config files are useful in troubleshooting Storage Navigator connection problems. Zip them up and upload to TUF.
The log files are located at: \Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\logs
The config files are located at: \Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\conf
