- Getting started with storage system management
Get an overview of the web-based user interface and the management workflow. Review management client requirements and the log-in procedure.
- Setting up the storage system environment
To use the various storage system functions, register your license key for the software product. You can also set the method by which alert notifications are sent in the event of a failure, and edit the message displayed in the login window. The following figure shows this workflow.
- Setting up user accounts and permissions
Use the maintenance utility to create and manage user accounts for
Storage Advisor Embedded.
- Configuring storage resources
Use the web-based user interface and the REST API to set up spare drives, configure drives, and create pools and volumes.
- Replicating data
You can perform backup of data in a storage system and restore it when a data failure occurs.
- Exporting storage system performance information
Storage Advisor Embedded offers two different methods of exporting performance data.
- Expanding volumes and pools
You can increase the capacity of a volume or a pool that has a high usage rate, and you can create multiple pools to improve fault tolerance or ensure I/O performance. You can view the results of any capacity saving technologies in use in the dashboard and the Pool details page.
- Monitoring the storage system
- Changing the clock and network settings
Use the Initial Setup Wizard to change the system date, time, and network settings at a time. To change any of these settings separately, click
Date & Time or
Network Settings in the
Administration tree of the maintenance utility.
- Transferring and downloading audit logs
Audit log provides information about the use of the storage system, which can help in identifying and diagnosing potential problems.
- Managing pools
You can get information about pools, get detailed information about specific pools, create pools by specifying drives, or increase the capacity of a pool by adding drives to the pool.
- Managing servers
You can register servers in the storage system and configure port settings as well as Fibre Channel or iSCSI settings. Attach volumes to servers to make capacity available to users.
- Managing volumes
You can get information about volumes, get detailed information about specific volumes, or change volume settings.
- Managing snapshots
Delete snapshots in the user interface or with the REST API. You can also use the API to obtain information about snapshots and snapshot groups.
- Overview of the REST API
Review general information about API requests, such as the basic system configuration for the REST API, how to specify resources to be managed, the information needed to execute an API request, and the information that is output when an API request is executed.
