Configure Analyzer detail view reports

View predefined configuration and performance reports, or create custom reports.

Using detail view email and syslog alerts

You must configure a separate set of alerts to monitor third-party resources.

NoteIf you have not installed any probes that are not supported by Ops Center Analyzer, it is not necessary to set up alerts within Analyzer detail view.

Setting up alerts

Analyzer detail view classifies metrics into two types: configuration and performance. Configuration metrics change infrequently, and include resource Status, Capacity, and so on. Performance metrics are more dynamic such as IOPS, response time, and so on.

You can set various alert conditions for configuration and performance metrics. When these conditions are met, a notification can be sent by email, SNMP or a Syslog server.

Adding detail view alerts

You can set alerts in detail view and configure notifications for them.

  1. Access Analyzer detail view from the More Actions menu.

  2. In the application bar area, click the Alerts list and select Add Alert.

  3. In the Alerts Details section, enter the following details:

    • Name A unique name with maximum length of 100 characters. (Alert name cannot contain special characters except underscore and space.)
    • Severity Severity level - Critical is red and Warning is amber.
  4. In the Alert Resource section, enter the following details:

    • Select Select the target to add the alert.
    • Choose Select one or more target instances.
    • Include future instances Automatically apply the alert to future target instances. (This option is only available if all target instances are selected.)
    • Create Alerts on Select the resource for which you want to set the alert.
    • For Instance(s) Select the resource instance.
NoteThe resource instances can be filtered based on certain criteria. For example, the disk type is displayed for RAID Pool Tier resource. You can filter the resource instances using the filter option (disk type) and then set alerts for the filtered resources. You can also choose to skip resource instances from the filtered list.
    • Include future instances Automatically include any future resource instances. (This option is only available if all resource instances are selected.)
  5. In the Alert Condition section, you can set alert condition on performance and configuration metrics:

      • Metric Select the configuration metric.
NoteIf a resource does not have a configuration metric for alerting, the configuration metric is not displayed in the list.
      • Condition Select the condition type. Metrics with numeric values use: greater than, between, and less than. Metrics with string values use the having condition.

NoteUnder certain circumstances, the Analyzer detail view cannot identify whether a metric is a numeric or string value. When this occurs, all condition types are listed in the GUI (greater than, between, less than, and having). To select the proper condition, you must know whether the metric is a numeric value or a string. You can find the value by running the query in Report Builder. See, Identifying the metric value.
      • Threshold Type or select a threshold value. (Certain metrics with string values include predefined thresholds.) The value set for the having condition is saved and is available for other users.

The threshold value specified in this field applies to all the selected resource instances.

Note The threshold field supports alphanumeric characters, hyphen (-), underscore (_) , comma (,), colon (:), at (@), slash (/), dot (.), and space.

        3. Click OK.
      • Criteria Select the criteria. (The maximum value for minutes is 60.)

To select the proper alert criteria you must know the data collection interval of the metric, see Identifying the collection interval.

NoteIf you want to add alerts for the metrics with a data collection interval exceeding 60 minutes, you must configure the data collection interval for these metrics up to 60 minutes on the RAID Agent.
      • Monitor Between Select the monitoring time. The alert condition is applied during this time period.
  6. In the Alert Notification section, click the Email, Syslog, or SNMP tab and provide the following details:

    • Email Select the email groups to which you want to send the notification, or type the individual email address. You can choose any of the following options:
      • Each alert violation Sends a notification on every alert.
      • Hourly or Daily Sends notification hourly or daily.
      • The first alert violation Sends the first violation alert and suppresses subsequent alert notifications when alert violations happen for an extended period. Sends the second notification when the alert condition is ended.
NoteYou can add email groups in Manage Manage Email groups and the email address in Manage Manage SMTP.
    • Syslog server Select the Syslog server.
NoteYou can configure the Syslog server in Manage Manage Syslog.
    • SNMP Manager Select the SNMP Manager.

      • You can configure the SNMP Manager in Manage Manage SNMP.
      • If you select SNMP Manager, alert violations on the real-time data are not sent to the SNMP Manager.
  7. Click Add Alert.

Identifying the collection interval

When setting up an alert on the resource, you must know the data collection interval of its metrics, because the criteria are set based on the data collection interval.

You can set an alert for a metric based on the number of samples for a multiple of the collection interval. For example, if the data collection interval of a particular metric is 5 minutes, you can set alert with a criteria of 1 sample out of 5 minutes, 2 samples out of 10 minutes, 1 samples out of 10 minutes, and so on.

You can access reports by clicking a report template in the Reports dock. The Reports dock is located at the bottom of the Reports pane, and displays the report templates for the selected Resource tree node.

Adding new reports in the detail view Reports dock

You can build your own new custom performance report templates in the Reports dock. In the Reports dock, click + Report.

Adding user-defined reports in the resource tree

Analyzer detail view provides a set of default reports on the resource tree nodes. These reports help you to manage resources in your environment (storage systems, switches, hosts, and hypervisors). However, you might need to add your own reports in the following scenarios:

  • To suit your infrastructure requirements: Analyzer detail view provides you the flexibility to create your own reports so that you can choose metrics that best suit your infrastructure.
  • To monitor metrics for which default reports are not available: While every probe collects a set of metrics, some metrics are optionally collected using certain collection methods. Default reports are not provided for these metrics, but you can add the reports for these metrics.

For example, the Total Response Time metric of RAID Port resource is collected by Hitachi Enterprise Storage probe (when the RAID Agent storage system instance is added using the SVP method). You can add a report for this metric using this procedure.

Refer to Hitachi Analyzer Detail View Metrics Reference Guide for data collection methods.

Procedure

  1. Access Analyzer detail view from the More Actions menu.

  2. You can add a new report in two ways:

    • In the resource tree, right-click the node in which you want to add a report, and then click Add Report.

For example, click on Hitachi > VSP G/VSP F/VSP E > Storage-system-instance-node > Ports node and then click Add Report.

    • In the Reports dock, click + Report.

For example, click on Hitachi > VSP G/VSP F/VSP E > Storage-system-instance-node > Ports node and then in the Reports Dock, click + Report.

    The Add Report window opens.
  3. In the Report Name field, type the report name.

  4. Click Add Metrics.

The window displays a list of related resources and metrics.

For example, select the Ports resource from the Resource(s) list and then select the Total Response Time metric from the Select metric(s) list.

NoteYou can add a maximum of 15 metrics (total in left and right axis).
  5. Click Add, and then click Save.

The report is added in the reports pane for the selected node in the resource tree and Reports dock.

Searching detail view report templates

You can search for a specific report template from the detail view Reports dock.

Specify the criteria and click Search.

GUID-84590D22-F2B6-46D7-922A-AD1EDEA43EAC-low.png
For example, if you type IOPS, report templates that include "IOPS" are displayed.

Exporting detail view reports in batch

You can export all the reports for a selected tree node.

Procedure

  1. Access Analyzer detail view from the More Actions menu.

  2. In the Reports dock, click Export Reports to start the export of all the reports. (Export Reports is enabled after all reports in the tab are loaded.)

The export function is only available for the Configuration and Performance views. It might take time for all the reports to be exported and ready for download. The reports are exported in a compressed file. The file name contains the node and tab information for easy reference (for example, VSP_HUS-VM_VSP53004_configuration.zip).

Results

Chart reports are exported in PDF format with the following names:

Chart_Reports_xxx_performance.pdf

Chart_Reports_xxx_configuration.pdf

where xxx is the node identifier (for example, Chart_Reports_VSP_HUS-VM_VSP53004_performance). The data for the chart reports is exported to an Excel file with the .xls extension. The data for each chart is saved in a separate worksheet.

General considerations

  • Some reports contain charts and tables (such as Capacity Reports on the Storage Systems). The chart reports are exported to PDF, and table reports are exported to Excel files.
  • A maximum of top 20 resources are exported. However, if the report has user-defined Top-N (number or percent), then it takes precedence over the global TopN-for-export property.
  • Charts do not consider any UI feature such as Zoom , Compare With, and changed unit of measure (reports are exported in the default view).
  • Any filters applied to tables are ignored (all the data is exported).
  • If data is not available, exported charts or tables contain the following message:

    No data available
