Viewing events

Overview

You can examine events reported from a computer aided dispatch system (CAD), or "911 calls", license plate readers (LPR), and other incidents. If your system is integrated with additional surveillance systems, such as Hitachi Live Face Matching and Hitachi Video Analytics, incidents detected by those systems can generate event alerts and be displayed on the map in Visualization Suite.

View events

Select events to be displayed on the map

You can show all or only select event types on the map. For example, you may only want to see the gunshot incidents on the map to get real-time gunshot summaries for your domain. With this map you have instant access to event reports describing when and where the gunshots occurred on the live map (including physical addresses), system generated log entries, and nearest cameras. When viewing the map you can visualize and analyze the location of gunshots, cameras, and other assets in the area.

Procedure

  1. lect the Map menu.

  2. Under Events, use the filters to select one or more event types you want to show on the map.

The LFM Alerts (alerts from the integrated Live Face Matching system) is selected in this example.

View images for an event

Events reported from some video surveillance systems include images from relevant video frames. For example, an event alert from Live Face Matching (LFM) includes facial images of a target subject whereas an image of a detected object or the scene of a location is provided by Hitachi Video Analytics (HVA) Object Detector (an analysis engine of Hitachi Video Analytics).

Procedure

  1. Click the event marker on the Map.

The preview pane appears on the left to show the summary of the event.
  2. In the preview pane, click the image under Alert Image.

    1. Click the next or back arrow to see all images for the event.

    2. Drag the magnifying glass over the image to zoom in.

    3. Click the download button to download the image.

Viewing an event-triggered snapshot

When an event occurs, one of the most common ways to investigate it is to check video recordings from the surrounding area. Visualization Suite takes a snapshot of nearby PTZ and non-PTZ cameras within a maximum one-mile radius. A snapshot can be accessed from the event details page where you can view a list of all cameras from the surrounding area with PTZ camera preset information and a quick playback link to each recording.
NoteContact your system administrator if you want to receive email notifications when certain events occur. Email notifications include the same list of PTZ and non-PTZ cameras that you can access in the Visualization Suite Web interface.

Before you begin

The slew-to-cue option must be enabled on VMS and entity types. See Enabling PTZ cameras to slew to the position of an event for more information.

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following to go the list of events (entities) for which you wish to view video recordings:

    • Under EVENTS click the gear icon next to the entity type. The list of entities opens. GUID-8052C92E-9FF8-416C-AB3F-C6E303882E65-low.png
    • Go to Settings ENTITY TYPES and click on the entity type. The list of entities opens.
  2. On the list of entities, click Details next to the entity (event) for which you want to check the video recordings.

  3. On the Cameras tab, playback videos from the nearest PTZ and non-PTZ cameras found within the set radius from the event.

The Cameras tab is not available if there are no cameras in the range.

The following figure shows an example camera list for a gunshot incident showing all PTZ and non-PTZ cameras found within 0.1-mile radius from the incident.

The following list describes the camera list fields:

  • Camera Name

    Name of the camera.

  • Distance (mi)

Distance from the event in miles.

  • Preset Name

Camera preset used to turn the camera to the position of the event (slew-to-cue). Preset name is not shown for non-PTZ cameras.

  • Status

    Camera status.

  • Live

NotePermissions must also be configured for the camera. For information, see the section, Grant Permissions to Enable Live Audio of the topic, Managing groups and permissions.
  • Playback

Click the icon to view the video recording to the time of the event (use the event timestamp shown above the table).

View event timelines

Event timeline allows you to see the events over time (daily or monthly).
NoteTimelines as displayed in the Map cannot be exported. However, if you create custom reports using the advanced reporting feature (requires a Custom Dashboards license), they can be exported. See Dashboards for more information about the advanced reporting in Visualization Suite.

Procedure

  1. Click TIMELINE on the left menu to see the timelines.
