UCP Advisor features and functionality

UCP Advisor simplifies IT management and orchestration for faster and easier deployment of converged and hyperconverged systems. UCP Advisor follows a subscription-based licensing model with a per month list price. Licensing count is device-based where a device is any UCP Advisor-supported server, storage system, or network switch (Ethernet or Fibre Channel). The available UCP Advisor features and functionality differ based on your license type: Foundation Edition or Advanced Edition.

This image shows the features available for Foundation and Advanced license editions

The Foundation Edition license provides the following functionality:

  • Automated Day 0 deployment

The Service Console walks you through the steps of preparing an environment for deploying the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) Advisor management software on a UCP system. It automatically discovers all the nodes in your environment, and then filters them to only those available for your system. You select which nodes you want to enable, and then supply all the general, network, and system settings required to set up the configuration. The configuration is then deployed to your environment. When completed, you can deploy the UCP Advisor management software.

  • Storage inventory

View the general and summary information for the storage systems in your UCP system.

  • Compute inventory

View the general information and management operations for the compute devices in your UCP system.

  • Fibre Channel switch inventory

View the general information and management operations for the Fibre Channel switches in your UCP system.

  • Ethernet switch inventory

View the general information and management operations for the Ethernet switches in your UCP system.

  • Storage management

Manage the storage components, such as storage systems, datastores, volumes, parity groups, and storage pools for the storage systems in your UCP system.

  • Compute management

Perform management operations, such as replacing a server, setting boot options, managing power settings, editing passwords, and launching remote console for the compute devices in your UCP system.

  • Fibre Channel switch management

Perform management operations such as adding, editing, or removing switches, backing up and restoring switch configurations, upgrading firmware, enabling or disabling switches, managing switch zones, zones aliases, and zone configurations for the Fibre Channel switches in your UCP system.

  • Ethernet switch management

Perform management operations, such as backing up and restoring switch configurations, upgrading firmware, and managing VLANs and ports for the Ethernet switches in your UCP system.

  • Federated UCP resource management

UCP Advisor enables simplified management of one or many Unified Compute Platform systems, including converged, hyperconverged, and rack-scale systems.

  • Firmware lifecycle management for compute

Upgrade compute firmware (BMC, BIOS, CPLD) to the latest version. You can also upgrade the I/O card firmware for compute nodes running an ESXi hypervisor and onboarded to the inventory using ESXi credentials.

The Advanced Edition license provides the following additional functionality:

  • Firmware lifecycle management of Fibre Channel switches

Upgrade the Fibre Channel switches to the latest version from an immediate previous version.

  • Firmware lifecycle management of Ethernet switches

Upgrade the Ethernet switches to the latest version from an immediate previous version.

  • vCenter Linked Mode

View and manage multisite VMware infrastructure and link multiple vCenter servers in UCP rack-scale (RS) systems.

  • Global-active device (GAD)

Create global-active device pairs in single server, server cluster, and cross-path system configurations for creating and maintaining synchronous, remote copies of data volumes.

  • Hitachi TrueCopy®

Create Hitachi TrueCopy® replication pairs for a server cluster system configuration for disaster recovery or data migration purposes.

  • Adaptive data reduction (ADR) and encryption

Save capacity and increase security by enabling deduplication, compression, and encryption from within UCP Advisor. ADR allows capacity savings at the parity group, storage pool, and logical unit levels. Encryption enabled at the parity group level protects the data stored on the drives in the parity group.

  • VLAN and Zone policy management

Create, edit, apply, and delete VLAN configuration policies for Ethernet switches and zone policies for Fibre Channel switches.

  • vRealize Log Insight (vRLI)

Register vRealize Log Insight (vRLI) server to UCP Advisor, and attach it to UCP system to forward system logs from servers and switches.
